Two Guantanamo Bay detainees have been transferred to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, according to a statement from the Pentagon on Monday. Saad Mohammad Hussein Qahtani and Hamood Abdulla Hamood had their cases reviewed and "were designated for transfer by consensus of the six departments and agencies comprising the (Guantanamo Bay Review Task Force). "In accordance with congressionally-mandated reporting requirements, the (Obama) administration informed Congress of its intent to transfer these individuals." The US also thanked the Saudi government "for its willingness to support ongoing US efforts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility (and) to ensure these transfers took place with appropriate security and humane treatment assurances." The Pentagon noted that 160 prisoners remain in Guantanamo.
