French President Francois Hollande has pressed for forming an international support group to revive peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Action will be taken to boost the proposed support group through the UN General Assembly, Hollande said at a press conference after his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas earlier Tuesday.

He told reporters his meeting with Abbas took up the latest developments in the Middle East, Al Quds and the Palestinian territories.

France is keen on maintaining the status quo of Al Aqsa that has been there since 1967, Hollande said.

He touched upon contacts he made with world leaders, particularly King Mohamed VI of Morocco, to stress the need for calm.

Hollande said he is satisfied with the successful French-Palestinian Intergovernmental Seminar, which was held for the first time in Paris on September 10.

The seminar has paved the way for progress in a number of fields of cooperation and action to improve the living conditions of the Palestinians, he told reporters.

Paris and Ramallah share the same views regarding the situation in Syria, Hollande said.

He spoke of a joint desire to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, despite the extreme difficulties.

The French president called for unifying efforts to end the war in Syria that has left many casualties and displaced big numbers of Syrians.
