Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdurrahman has today met Pakistani Permanent Representative and Islamic Group Coordinator at the UN Human Rights Council Zamir Akram-on the sidelines of the 22nd high-level session being held in Geneva. Dr. Ali highlighted Bahrain’s human rights strides, citing legislative measures to protect liberties, develop constitutional institutions, anchor democratic values and promote wide-ranging reforms which are top priorities for the government. He reiterated Bahrain’s firm commitment to promote the culture of human rights, in an effort engaging official establishments and civil society institutions. Dr. Ali updated the Pakistani diplomat on the resumption of the national dialogue following a royal call to address pending political issues, promote the democratic march and consolidate national security and stability. He briefed the Pakistani representative on the joint statement which will be presented by the Swiss ambassador on behalf of several countries, inquiring about the stance of the Islamic Group in this regard. Mr. Akram pledged support for Bahrain, adding that the Islamic Group would incorporate a paragraph in the joint statement in this respect.
