Vienna - XINHUA
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Wednesday issued a new statement after a board of governor meeting, urging Iran to suspend its nuclear activities. \"We are deeply concerned that Iran continues to undertake certain nuclear activities contrary to the relevant resolutions of the Board of Governors and the UN Security Council,\" the statement noted. The U.N. atomic agency expressed deep concern that Iran continues to push forward its nuclear plan including installing advanced centrifuges, production of enriched uranium, and construction of the IR-40 reactor at Arak. The IAEA urged Iran to fully cooperate with the agency to resolve the outstanding issues in its nuclear programme, and suspend its nuclear activities which violate relevant resolutions of UN Security Council. \"We urge once again Iran to comply fully without delay with all of its obligations under the relevant UNSC Resolutions, and to meet the requirements of the Board of Governors,\" the statement said. However, the IAEA expresses its commitment to negotiating with Tehran to conclude a long-term solution over this issue, despite ten rounds of talks between Iran and IAEA failed to make any concrete progress. The IAEA\'s latest report shows that Iran is installing more advanced centrifuges in Natanz nuclear plant, building the IR-40 reactor at Arak, which is presumed by the west to embark on the second path to the nuclear weapon by producing plutonium. According to the report, the 20 per cent enriched uranium possessed by Iran had not exceeded 240 kg, the amount which is needed to build a nuclear bomb. Iran said the report shows the evidence its nuclear programme is peaceful, saying that Tehran is not heading to a nuclear bomb. IAEA chief Yukiya Amano said the talk with Iran was going in circle, showing his frustration and disappointment.
