The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration issued a joint humanitarian appeal for collecting 550 million euros to meet the needs of the refugees who flee their countries to Europe because of the Middle East conflicts.
In a statement, the two organizations said the number of forced refugees in the world hit a record high of 60 million people.
It pointed out that the number of refugees who arrived in Europe in 2015 exceeded one million, including 850,000 who arrived by boats from Turkey to Greece then to various European countries.
