The flag of Hezbollah flies in Syria

A Swedish national is accused of working for Hezbollah and attempting to recruit Israeli operatives for the organization, the Shin Bet and Justice Department said on Sunday.

The 55-year-old Hassan Halil Hizran, a Swede of Lebanese-Palestinian descent, was arrested at Ben-Gurion International Airport on July 21. During his interrogation, the Shin Bet said he admitted to working for Hezbollah since 2009, when he visited his family in Lebanon, Haaretz reported.

An indictment was filed against Hizran Sunday morning with the Lod Magistrate Court and the gag order on his arrest was lifted. He is charged with a string of security-related offences, including contact with a foreign agent and transferring information. The Swedish government has been informed, a statement from the Shin Bet said.
