Israeli Foreign Ministry General Director Dore Gold arrived in Cairo Sunday for talks on pushing forward the Mideast peace process, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.

Gold held talks with Assistant Foreign Minister For Neighboring countries' Affairs Osama Magdoub on resuming Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations in accordance with agreed-upon international references.

Magdoub underlined the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue and that any settlement to the issue should be based on the two-state solution.

The Palestinian issue is the core of conflict in the region and reaching a solution to this issue is a key to stability in the region, he concluded.
