The Italian Embassy in Cairo announced on Wednesday the resumption of some of its consular services after they were suspended following the terrorist attack on the Italian Consulate building downtown Cairo on July 11.

One person was killed and 10 others were wounded when a booby-trapped car exploded outside the building. None of the consulate staffers were dead in the attack as it was closed.

In a statement, the embassy said the visa and passport section will open next week to receive applicants despite the big challenges facing the embassy staffers given to the lack of sufficient places at Cairo headquarters.

The embassy is mulling more than one option to resume the other consular services, it added.
