Italian consulate blast scene

Italy's Prime Minister Matteo Renzi phoned Saturday President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to stress his country's solidarity with Egypt in its war against terrorism.

During the phone call, Sisi said Egypt appreciated Italian support, citing the distinguished bilateral ties binding the two countries.

Sisi reiterated that such incidents underscore the importance of concerting international efforts to fight terrorism.

Sisi said Egypt provides necessary protection to all the diplomatic missions in the country.

Renzi thanked Sisi over fast response to the incident.

Early Saturday, a bomb was planted under a car parked outside the Italian Consulate in downtown Cairo. The bomb was remotely detonated, leaving one person killed and at least nine others injured.
