Italian President Sergio Mattarella expressed his country's condemnation to the terrorist attacks that targeted north Sinai on Wednesday.

He offered condolences to the families of the victims, an Italian Foreign Ministry statement said on Thursday.

In a cable of condolences to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Mattarella expressed solidarity with the Egyptian government and people in their war against terrorism.

Egypt is a cornerstone in the region, the statement read, adding that the terrorist attacks will not sap the Egyptians' will.
