Italy's Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Franco Roberti offered his condolences to Egypt over the assassination of Prosecutor General Hesham Barakat during a terror blast on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Roberti headed to the Egyptian embassy in Rome to offer his condolences.
He expressed his support for Egypt in its war against terrorism and violence.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Ambassador in Rome Amr Helmy said the embassy received messages of support from Italian political and media figures.
He pointed out to a statement issued by Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, expressing support for Egyptian efforts against extremism and fundamentalism.
