Italy has underlined its readiness to play a leading role in Libya within a United Nations (UN) framework so as to support the national unity government in the Arab country.

The announcement is meant to preserve the stability of Libya in light of the expansion of Daesh terrorist group in the country.

In an editorial published in the Foreign Affairs Magazine on Friday, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said that Daesh constitutes a threat to peace in the Mediterranean region, noting that his country plays a vital role in fighting terrorism.

The war on Daesh does not include the military aspect only, but halting the flow of financial resources to this extremist organization as well.
