Italy's Foreign Ministry

Italy's Foreign Ministry on Friday renewed support for Egypt in its fight against terror, saying Rome backs a unity government in Libya.

In a statement, the ministry said Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni held talks with Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab on security measures in Egypt following attack on the Italian consulate in Cairo on July 11.

During his visit to Rome, Mahlab discussed relations and cooperation at levels of economy and investments, the statement said.

Mahlab met with his Italian counterpart Matteo Renzi, Italy's President Sergio Mattarella and a number of Italian ministers and officials.

A number of deals in the field of petroleum, energy and electricity were signed during the visit.
