Rome - MENA
Italian Foreign Minister, Paolo Gentiloni has called on parliament to recognize the Palestinian State, Italy's ANSA news agency reported Friday.
"The government considers the parliamentary initiative to promote the recognition of the state of Palestine positively and will make every effort to ensure that negotiations between the parties reopen", Gentiloni told the House of Representatives.
"There is a right for Palestinians to have their country, and their is a right for the state of Israel to live in peace and security despite the fact that some charters would like to delete its existence," he said.
"Within this framework, the government views favorably the parliamentary initiative for the promotion of a Palestinian state and will make every effort to ensure that negotiations between the parties reopen", added Gentiloni.
