A Japanese diplomat has escaped an attempt on his life while he was leaving his house in central Sanaa, the Yemeni Interior Ministry said here on Sunday. The Japanese consul in Yemen was stabbed in his head and back by unknown militants before they ran away, the ministry said. The wounded diplomat was taken to hospital in the Yemeni capital for necessary medical treatment, it said, describing his condition as "stable". Unknown gunmen had killed a German worker at the German embassy in Sanaa at a shopping center a couple of months ago.
