Jordan condemned a raid by Israeli settlers into Al Aqsa Mosque and the assault of mosque guards and worshipers.

The desecration of the mosque and the attack on its guards and worshipers are a provocation to Arabs and Muslims, government spokesman Mohammad al Momani said.

Earlier on Sunday, scores of Palestinian worshipers were injured when clashes erupted with Israeli forces at Al Aqsa grounds.

Jerusalem Awqaf Department said in a statement that the Israeli authorities deployed a private military force at the Al Aqsa compound after the incident to allow the incursions of settlers to the Mosque on the anniversary of the so-called "destruction of the Temple".

‏Israeli Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel was among those extremists who broke into the Mosque through the Al Magharbeh gate amid tight security, the statement added.
