Jordan’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Hussein Majali met on Tuesday with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and discussed ways of forging closer relations between Jordan and Norway in various fields. Talks also covered the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations sponsored by the United States. The minister stressed Jordan’s supportive stance towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting meantime that his country backs a political solution to the Syrian crisis. The two officials also discussed the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan and its humanitarian repercussions in the light of a continuing flow of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom. Majali stressed the need for concerted international efforts to help Jordan address the repercussions of the Syrian crisis, which is exerting an increasing pressure on the Kingdom’s limited resources, mainly with regard to humanitarian, health and social services offered to the refugees.
