US state secretary John Kerry will lead the US delegation to the Geneva 2 conference slated for Switzerland in 22 Jan. The conference aims to bring together the Syrian regime representatives and the main opposition alliance to the negotiating table to bring about a political solution to the almost three-year old syrian dispute.Radio sawa reported that the Syrian opposition is still divided on its participation in the said conference and is expected to take its relevant decision tomorrow, Friday.Washington has backed, the National Coalition, has put off until Friday its final decision on whether to attend, or stay away as key leaders have demanded. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of the Syria conference in Montreux on january 22, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.During a telephone conversation between Lavrov and Kerry on Wednesday, the Russian minister and the U.S. secretary discussed "pressing issues on the international agenda, including preparation for the peace conference on Syria, ways to ease the humanitarian crisis in that country and the settlement of issues concerning the Iranian nuclear programme," reported Itar-Tass news agency.
