The State of Kuwait has effectively taken part in a major international conference, hosted by Mexico, tackling the issue of nuclear arms' impact on human beings. In a statement late on Thursday after the convention inauguration, Kuwait's Ambassador to Mexico Sameeh Johar Hayat said the Gulf State is participating in the conference "with great concern and is following up closely on the rich debates. "Issues examined by the conferees and their recommendations constitute substantial addition to the international community efforts and the quest for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation." The Government of Mexico has hosted the conference, held in the city of Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, February 13-14, on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons. This conference, concluding today, aims to further explore the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons as a follow-up to the discussions that started in Oslo in March 2013. Representatives of up to 147 states are taking part in the convention. Mexican Foreign Secretary Jose Antonio Meade, in his inaugural statement, affirmed Mexico's unwavering stance in support of efforts to dismantle all such lethal arms that pose a threat to the world stability. The conference is aimed at studying proposed methods and plans to destroy these weapons in addition to debating the catastrophic consequences of employing them, Meade said. He called for drawing up effective mechanisms to pressure states that possess such deadly arms and dismantle them "so the world may live safe from their catastrophic hazards."
