Kuwait called on the international community to work vigorously on ridding the world of nuclear arms and weapons of mass destruction, Kuwait news agency (KUNA) reported on Saturday. This statement came during a speech delivered by third secretary at the Kuwait permanent delegation to the United Nations, Ibrahim Al-Arfaj, to the committee meeting on weapons disarmament and world security of the 67th UN General Assembly. Al-Arfaj said Kuwait believed that the only means to rid the world of such weapons was to work in earnest to prevent the proliferation of nuclear arms, stressing that by doing such, the world would live in peace and harmony. The Kuwaiti diplomat added that allowing states like Israel, which refused to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), to have nuclear capabilities would hinder the goal of a free nuclear Mideast.
