Russian FM Sergei Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Egypt's Sameh Shoukry discussed, in a telephone conversation Tuesday, joint cooperation in foreign policies.

A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry said the two top diplomats also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, with focus on the situation in Syria.

The two sides stressed the need to continue diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis through a comprehensive national consensus, the statement said.

Lavrov and Shoukry said that any solution should take into consideration the unity of Syrian lands, it added.
