Tripoli - MENA
Members of the Libyan parliament are thoroughly studying a draft on a political agreement submitted by the UN mission in Libya, said Jalal al Shawahdi, chairman of the media committee in parliament, Wednesday.
The majority of the members accept the draft but the discussions are not over yet, Shawahdi told MENA.
The Libyan parliament will be issuing an official statement within hours to make clear its stance regarding the UN draft, Shawahdi said.
The UN draft stresses the legitimacy of the Libyan parliament and considers it the sole legitimate authority during the transitional period in Libya, he noted.
The draft, which is made up of 61 articles, had been sent by the UN to representatives of all the major parties in the Arab country.
It tackled the ruling principles, the national unity government, trust-building measures, security arrangements and the constitutional process.
