London Mayor Boris Johnson has revealed that he wants to give up his dual nationality and hand back the American passport which he became entitled to when he was born in New York.
The move would clear any possible impediment to the would-be Tory MP becoming prime minister, as well as shielding him from any future tax claims from the US authorities, the Sunday Times reported.
Speaking to the Sunday Times, Johnson said: "My commitment is, and always has been, to Britain. It’s an accident of birth that has left me with this thing. I’ve got to find a way of sorting it out.”
