Police are beefing up security at Wimbledon in the wake of the Tunisia hotel attack as London prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings.

Intelligence warned there is a severe terror threat on British soil as the tennis championship kicks off Monday with a heavy police presence.

The tournament will include quarter-finals played on July 7, 10 years to the day after bombers blew up Tube trains and a bus killing 52 in the worst terror attack on British soil.

Tensions are already heightened after a gunman slaughtered at least 15 Brits at the Tunisian beach resort of Sousse on Friday, with horror stories continuing to emerge today.

The Metropolitan Police said 'amendments' have been made to Wimbledon's security regime after last year's arrangements were reviewed.

Extra officers will patrol the area - including some in plain clothes - and more road closures will be put in place as Andy Murray bids to regain the men's singles title he won in 2013.

There will also be a 'highly mobile reserve that can respond to emerging incidents'.

Wimbledon is taking place a week later than normal to let players rest after the French Open, and the Met says it has used the extra time 'to ensure that the most effective police plan' is in place.
