Luxembourgers are being asked in a referendum on
Sunday whether they want to extend voting rights to foreigners and to
people aged 16 or older, as well for as their opinion on curtailing
ministers' terms in office to 10 consecutive years, dpa reported.
If successful, the Grand Duchy would become the first EU country to
give foreigners a say in national elections.
Around 45 per cent of people living in Luxembourg are foreign
nationals. The referendum asks if they should be allowed to vote
after having lived in the country for 10 years, if they have already
participated in communal or European elections there.
