Amman - Petra
Jordan said on Tuesday that any \"positive\" positions by the parties to the Syrian conflict that could boost prospects for a political solution and open the door for a peaceful end to the crisis are commendable and worthy of support. State Minister for Media Affairs and Communications and Culture Minister Samih Maaytah urged the international community to deal \"positively\" with these overtures, in an apparent reference to a statement by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al Mouallem that Damascus is ready for talks with the opposition to solve the two-year-old crisis. Maaytah, who is also official government spokesman, said such positions should be turned into a political process that would safeguard Syria\'s unity, put an end to the bloodshed and restore security and stability in \"sister\" Syria.\" He said finding a solution to the Syrian crisis would once and for all end the violence and suffering of Syrians and also end the burdens on Jordan as a result of the ongoing crisis. Maaytah said that since the beginning of the crisis, Jordan had backed a political solution and dialogue stemming from its keenness on its neighbour\'s unity and stability, noting that the Kingdom had steered clear of intervention in Syria\'s internal affairs.
