Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov has interrupted his visit to the Russian Federation and returned to Macedonia to follow up recent clashes between security forces and militant terrorists who infiltrated into the country, Euro News reported on Saturday.

The Security Council will be convened in light of the incidents in Kumanovo, said the President's Cabinet.

Macedonian police have launched an operation in the ethnically mixed northern town of Kumanovo against armed and uniformed men believed to be ethnic Albanians.

Video filmed showed an explosive device hitting a rooftop where the armed group is believed to have barricaded itself. It is unclear who the members of the group are or what aims they have.

At least 15 people were wounded, according to media reports from Macedonia and Bulgaria.

Ivanov attended early Saturday the observance of the 70. anniversary from the victory over fascism, laying flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and attending the reception hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
