His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Wednesday with the Head of the Russian Federal Agency for Atomic Energy (Rosatom), Sergei Kiriyenko, and the accompanying delegation currently on a visit to the Kingdom.The King highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Russia as well as his keenness to further boost them, mainly in the field of energy, as part of the Kingdom’s strategy to diversify its energy resources, including generating electricity from nuclear energy.Kiriyenko stressed his country’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Jordan in implementing the nuclear energy projects in accordance with the best international safety standards and best practices.Russia, he added, is keen to forge closer ties with Jordan in various domains in the interest of both peoples.The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief, director of the King’s office, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Agency and the Russian ambassador in Amman.Jordan recently selected Russia to build the country’s first two 1,000 megawatt nuclear reactors in a bid to produce atomic energy within the next decade.
