India\'s Customs Department seized a major haul of 101 kilograms of heroin on a goods train coming from Pakistan, in the country\'s northern city of Amritsar, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI). Besides, five hundred live pistol cartridges were also recovered from the train. The value of seizure runs in millions of dollars in the international market. The drug was being smuggled in cement rakes of the train. It was located in a search operation. According to a customs official, this is the first time that such a huge quantity of heroin was seized while being smuggled to India. He added that a search operation in the goods train was still on, and the final report of seizure is awaited. The seizure assumes significance amidst demand from the Indian traders to install a big scanner at the international border (in Amritsar) to prevent smuggling from Pakistan as it was hampering trade. In the past few months, around three big consignments of heroin in large quantity were seized from cement bags brought from Pakistan to India through goods train. The last seizure was made when Indian Customs sleuths posted at an international Railway station seized in June five kg heroin. The stuff was smuggled from Pakistan
