Felou hydroelectric dam, situated 15 km from Kayes in western Mali, will be inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of the presidents of Mali, Guinea, Mauritania and Senegal. The four countries are members of the Senegal River Basin Development Organization (OMVS). Built at a cost of 25.7 million euros, the dam was co-financed by the four countries, the International Development Association (IDA) and the European Investment Bank. The infrastructure will enable the four concerned countries to increase their energy supply. The dam, which has a capacity to produce 60 Mgw, was constructed by a Chinese consortium, Sinohydro Corporation. The construction work was launched on Oct. 30, 2009.
