Mauritania has foiled the largest drug smuggling operation coming from South America to Europe via Nouakchott, Mauritania's online Al-Tawary newspaper reported on Monday.

The smugglers belong to neighboring countries, Europe and Latin America, said a well-placed source.

This is the largest operation of its kind in the history of the North African country, the source added.
