EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Friday met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, German Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier and UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond.

French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal told reporters that the meeting dealt with the Syrian crisis and its impact on Europe, in addition to the peace process in the Middle East and the problem of migrants.

Nadal added that the talks showed identical views between the four sides regarding those issues.

The French Foreign Ministry had announced that that meeting, which comes a few days before the ministerial week of the UN General Assembly, would be an opportunity to discuss the situation in Libya, the Syrian crisis and the unprecedented flow of refugees to Europe.

France reiterated its position calling for a political transition in Syria that involves members of the current Syrian regime and the moderate opposition, according to the Geneva statement.
