Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday for the first time since the current Israeli government was sworn in, according to Haaretz. During the call, Netanyahu told Abbas that he wants to restart peace talks as soon as possible, the Israeli daily newspaper reported. “I hope Secretary of State Kerry’s efforts will show results,” Netanyahu said. Direct talks broke down in 2010 over Israel’s settlement of the occupied West Bank.
