The new U.S. Defence Secretary Ash Carter arrived here today on his first trip since taking over the post earlier this week.
Carter will hold talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and senior officials, as well as US military officials and diplomats on the future of US military presence on Afghanistan.
The US has 10,000 troops in Afghanistan, and there are plans to reduce them to only 5,500 by the end of this year.
