Nicaraguan Vice President Moisés Omar Halleslevens Acevedo

Visiting Nicaraguan Vice President Moisés Omar Halleslevens Acevedo congratulated the Egyptian people on the inauguration of the New Suez Canal.

At a meeting with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri Thursday, Acevedo, who leads his country's delegation to the inaugural ceremony, also delivered greetings of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to the Egyptian government and people who were able to finalize such a mega project in one year.

According to the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, the Nicaraguan vice president said his country was planning to set up a mega project linking between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and that Nicaragua would seek Egyptian expertise to implement the project.

The meeting also dwelt on ways to enhance bilateral relations in the various fields, Abu Zeid said.

For his part, the Egyptian foreign minister was keen to underline the Egyptian trend for establishing and maintaining strong relations with all world countries in order to benefit from stories of success and deliver Egyptian viewpoints regarding regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Shoukri also posted the Nicaraguan vice president on the latest economic, political and social developments in Egypt, especially with regard to the Egyptian economic development program and plans to lure foreign investments to Egypt.

Terrorism-combat in Egypt and efforts to enhance stability and peace in the Middle East were also high on the agenda of the meeting, according to the spokesman.
