The US State Department has denied any link between a recent California shooting that killed 14 people and a program to resettle Syrian refugees.

"The US has made very clear its position on the resettlement of Syrian refugees, that we would take at least 10,000 this year," said Elizabeth Trudeau, the director of the Press Office, in statements Friday, stressing "we maintain that commitment."

"So the refugee program is actually – it’s a level of screening that takes place through UNHCR."
