US President Barack Obama has chosen the Secret Service's acting director, Joseph Clancy, to lead the agency, the White House said Wednesday .
Clancy has led the Secret Service since October. He is a 27-year veteran of the agency and led the part of the Secret Service tasked with protecting the president from 2009-2011, dpa reported.
He had retired from the Secret Service and taken a job at cable provider Comcast before being called back to lead the agency.
Previous Secret Service director Julie Pierson resigned in October. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Clancy was qualified to oversee reforms inside the Secret Service.
