Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani, has condemned the twin bomb attacks on February 20 on the central hotel in Mogadishu, which killed 25 innocent people and injured a score of others, according to a statement released by the OIC.
The victims included top government officials and lawmakers. The deputy prime minister was among those wounded.
The secretary general, who described the incident as a criminal and cowardly act targeting worshipers, presented his sincere condolences to the families of the victims, the government and people of Somalia.
He wished the quick recovery of the injured.
While reiterating the full solidarity of the OIC with the authorities in Somalia in their endeavors to combat violent extremism and terrorism, which negate the compassionate values of the noble religion of Islam, Madani also reiterated the principled stand of the organization against all forms and manifestation of terrorism and urged the government not to relent in its efforts to stabilize the country and restore durable peace.
