Clashes against Taliban and other rebel groups resulted in killing of 2,767 security officers in Afghanistan in 2013, Afghan security sources said. Most of them were killed as a result of suicide bombings perpetrated by Taliban. The casualties in Afghan security forces rose 32% in 2013, compared to the previous year, when the death toll had been 1,881. The Afghan army took over the security of the country from international forces in June, 2013.
