Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyadh al Malki has started talks with a raft of New Zealander officials to discuss means of providing support for the Palestinians, who want to go to the UN Security Council to issue a resolution to establish their independent state, said a statement by the Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Malki held talks with his New Zealander counterpart Murray McCully on the planned Palestinian move meant to set a deadline for ending the Israeli occupation.

The talks tackled means of enhancing cooperation between both countries in various fields, along with the latest developments in the region, mainly in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya.

McCully stressed the need to put an end to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and to end the Israeli occupation.

Malki also met with the Commercial Council of New Zealand to discuss ways to consolidate economic cooperation.
