Pope Francis of the Vatican will send a senior delegation led by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, to attend the New Suez Canal inauguration ceremony on August 6, Egypt's Ambassador to the Vatican Wafaa Bassim asserted on Thursday.

In statements to MENA, Bassim said the Papal delegation will partake in the event at an invitation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Sisi has visited Vatican on November 24 and met with Pope Francis and Secretary of the Vatican Cardinal Pietro Barawlin.
