Washington - MENA
The US Department of Defense on Friday expressed optimism over the new Minsk agreement, which was reached on Thursday to stop the fighting between Ukrainian troops and rebels loyal to Russia.
"Regarding Ukraine diplomatic solution, the Pentagon Press Secretary says the department hopeful," the department said on Twitter. "Actions speak louder than words."
Thursday's agreement in Minsk was previously welcomed by the White House, with Press Secretary Josh Earnest saying in a statement that it represented "a potentially significant step toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict" and praising the "tireless efforts" of Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande.
