A civilian received a fatal bullet on Thursday from a policeman who was trying to break up a melee that erupted near the Cairo police headquarters, a security official told MENA. 

The policeman used his gun and opened fire in the air to break up the brawl, but a civilian sustained a fatal injury, the official added. 

An investigation was opened into the incident.
