Head of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace Peter Turkson on Monday lauded Egypt's efforts to confront terrorism, extremism and religious intolerance.

During his first meeting with Egypt's Ambassador to the Vatican Hatem Seif El Nasr, Turkson hailed the leading role of Al Azhar Al Sharif in the Islamic world.

He also praised the Egyptian steps taken to promote social justice, and the culture of peace and moderation.
