Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese will start next month a foreign tour that would take him to Sweden, Denmark, the US and Ethiopia.

The tour will include a pastoral trip in Sweden, Denmark and the US, Pope Tawadros said during his weekly sermon on Wednesday.

Pope Tawadros will visit Ethiopia to enhance ties with the Ethiopian church. Ethiopian Orthodox Patriarch Mathias visited Egypt in January.

The Egyptian and Ethiopian Orthodox churches played a crucial role in negotiations between the two countries regarding the Grand Renaissance Dam Ethiopia is building on the Blue Nile.

The Egyptian pope said his sermon will be suspended during the visit until November 1st, congratulating Christians on the advent of the Coptic New Year, to start on September 11
