Kiev - MENA
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Sunday that Ukraine saw shocking levels of desertion during the first wave of mobilization in the early days of the country's fight against Russian-backed militants.
The numbers, Poroshenko told Ukrainian media, were as high as 30%.
The Ukrainian government, which came to power last year, inherited a poorly equipped and staffed military, which suffered from years of neglect following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
