Pyongyang's possession of a hydrogen bomb is a kind of self-defense measure to defend itself against the US, the North Korean ambassador to Egypt said on Saturday.

North Korea declared on Tuesday that it had tested a hydrogen bomb.

The North’s announcement came about an hour after detection devices around the world had picked up a 5.1 seismic event along the country’s northeast coast.

It said that the test had been a “complete success.”
