Beirut - NNA
Minister of Justice Shakib Qortbawi called upon those who object to a law draft that combines both majority and proportionality systems to present alternatives, stressing the necessity to hold Parliamentary elections on schedule. "What we are witnessing today on the election law is an accumulation since the 1990's as Christians are trying to say that they are present," Qortbawi told "Voice of Lebanon- Dbayeh" radio on Monday. Separately, Qortbawi supported legislating civil marriage in Lebanon without striking out the sect (from the marriage license) as it is considered legal; reminding that the cabinet endorsed the civil marriage project in the 1990's but was never put into action. Qortbawi said that he and the Minister of Interior and Municipalities will raise this subject in the cabinet, hoping it would be activated.
