The Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gennady Gatilov met with Israeli Ambassador in Moscow Zvi Heifetz.

The ministry added that the meeting dealt with situation in Syria and the settlement process in the Middle East along with international issues of common concern.

On Sunday, Israel's defense minister Moshe Yaalon said that a Russian jet recently penetrated Israeli airspace but was not shot down thanks to an open communication system between the two countries.
