Russia Saturday reiterated its support for President Mahmoud Abbas following Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman statements, in which he called to replace Abbas in new elections. According to the Russian Interfax news agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed its support of Abbas as a universally-recognized leader of the Palestinian Authority. According to WAFA, the ministry statement said, Breaking the current deadlock in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process is possible only through negotiation based on the universally accepted international law basis.
